Moments of tension and anguish were experienced on the night of last Tuesday, January 14, in the La Honda sector, Manrique, in Medellín, after the collapse of a commercial premises that left structural damage in at least five surrounding homes.
The emergency was reported to line 123 around 11:22 pm, which immediately activated the response of the relief agencies.
Three crews from the Official Medellín Fire Department quickly arrived at the site and managed to enter the collapsed structure, where they found several people trapped in the rubble.
Thanks to the search and rescue efforts, the rescuers managed to rescue three people and two canines that were inside the property alive.

According to the official report, no fatalities were recorded, which was described as a positive result given the conditions of the collapse.
The rescued people were assessed at the scene by personnel from the Ministry of Health, and one of them was transferred to a healthcare center as a preventive measure.
The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, confirmed that the Mayor’s Office activated institutional support through the social team, in order to provide support to the affected families and evaluate their immediate needs.

Likewise, he indicated that technical reviews are being carried out to determine the causes of the collapse and verify the stability of nearby buildings.
Local authorities indicated that the area remains under monitoring while the corresponding structural studies are carried out, with the aim of avoiding new risks for the community.
