The National Police reported the capture of a 35-year-old man who was transporting material used for counterfeiting banknotes on a road in Valle del Cauca.
The operation was carried out by uniformed officers from the Directorate of Transit and Transportation on the Cencar – Airport road, at kilometer 3+400, in the jurisdiction of Palmira.
The detainee, a native of Tumaco (Nariño), was a passenger in a public service vehicle of the Expreso Palmira company, which covered the Cali-Tuluá route.
During the luggage inspection, agents found a package wrapped in beige tape containing 1,050 papers that imitated $50,000 bills, for a total value of $52,500,000 in counterfeit currency, the authenticity of which was verified with ultraviolet light.
The seizure of this material for counterfeiting currency was presented to the URI Prosecutor’s Office of Palmira, which will charge the captured person according to article 275 of the Penal Code, regarding trafficking, production and possession of elements intended for counterfeiting national currency.
Brigadier General Susana Blanco Romero, Director of Transit and Transportation, highlighted that this result was possible thanks to the professionalism and preparation of the uniformed personnel who patrol the country’s roads.

“Thanks to the use of technological tools such as ultraviolet light, it was possible to detect material intended to affect confidence in our national currency”stated the officer.
He also called on citizens to report any suspicious activity related to the circulation of counterfeit bills, and reiterated the commitment of the National Police to the protection of the economy and the security of Colombians.
