The District Institute for Animal Protection and Welfare (IDPYBA) reported on a case of animal abuse that occurred in the Santa Cecilia neighborhood, town of Suba, where a mixed-race dog, apparently juvenile, was found cremated. The events, reported by the community, occurred last Thursday, January 8.

The situation was detected thanks to the SOS ‘Saving Animals’ strategy, implemented by the IDPYBA in conjunction with local rescuers. After receiving the alert, the entity escalated the case to the Anti-Cruelty Squad, which carried out the removal of the body to perform the corresponding autopsy, with the aim of providing key information to the investigation.

The operation was carried out in coordination with various institutions, including the Special Group for the Fight against Animal Abuse (GELMA) of the Attorney General’s Office, the Quadrant Police, the Local Mayor’s Office of Suba and rescuers from the area. During the procedure, testimonies were collected from neighbors who relate this fact to other possible cases of violence against animals in the sector.

The IDPYBA formally reported the case to GELMA and assured that it will legally represent the victim animal in the legal process to identify and punish the person responsible. The entity also calls on citizens so that those who have information about this event share it through the institute’s official channels.

The Institute reaffirmed its total rejection of any act of animal abuse and confirmed that it will continue to develop articulated actions with the authorities to advance the investigation, in addition to evaluating the situation of other animals that could be linked to the same case.
