The Mayor’s Office of Cali and the Metropolitan Police delivered the security balance of the weekend of ‘velitas’ where more than 4 thousand uniformed personnel were deployed to guarantee the security, coexistence and protection of life in Cali.
This security device resulted in the capture of 44 people, the seizure of 9 firearms and the recovery of 10 vehicles. Likewise, the attention of more than 6,800 calls to the Police line 123 to report, mainly, situations of coexistence and domestic violence.
“We reiterate the call to the people of Cali. The authorities are here to respond to these calls, but we need everyone’s responsibility in each of their actions, in not using violence to resolve conflicts. As a consequence of acts that threaten citizen coexistence, more than 1,400 summons were imposed for the ‘Police Code,'” said Jairo García, Secretary of Security and Justice of Cali.
Less gunpowder, more life
On the other hand, control actions continue to be carried out against the illegal trade in gunpowder. This weekend the Metropolitan Police seized more than 4,500 units of fireworks that were going to enter Cali for irregular marketing. So far in the month of December, more than 86 thousand grams of gunpowder have already been seized, preventing its irregular distribution and reducing the risks for the community.
“The seizures were the result of 3 operations. Remind Cali residents that the decree that restricts the sale of gunpowder in public spaces is in force and that generates penalties between 2 and 20 minimum wages. We are going to continue carrying out verifications in the city to avoid people injured due to the improper handling of these elements,” said the Secretary of Security and Justice of Cali.
The District Health Secretariat reported 13 people injured by gunpowder between the night of December 7 and the early morning of December 8.
Important blow to smuggling and multicrime gangs
One of the important results is the impact on illegal economies that commit crimes with smuggling in the center of Cali. The capture of a citizen of Asian origin allegedly linked to the irregular entry of merchandise into Colombia was achieved.

In the operation, merchandise valued at more than $190 million was seized, including appliances, technological accessories, household items, makeup and Christmas decorations that had entered the country without complying with current customs regulations.
“This citizen had settled in Cali and had businesses in the downtown sector of the city. It is a joint effort with the Tax and Customs Police with an arrest warrant and subsequently several commercial premises where these merchandise are seized are raided,” said Brigadier General Henry Bello, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police.
This person was placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office for the crimes of money laundering, illicit enrichment and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The criminal gang ‘Los LS’ dismantled
It was also possible to dismantle the multi-crime structure known as ‘Los LS’, accused of promoting homicides, drug trafficking and forced displacements.
Through eight search procedures in Llano Verde, Pízamos and Puertas del Sol, eight people were captured and are accused of two homicides, one attempted homicide and the monthly sale of nearly 16,000 doses of marijuana in school environments and in the territories.
Those captured were left at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office for the crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime, aggravated homicide, forced displacement, instrumentalization of minors to commit crimes, drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms.
“They affected school environments, recreation parks, cultural and sports venues mainly in commune 15. Here what we are avoiding is the instrumentalization of children and adolescents and that our society is affected by this phenomenon of drug trafficking. We invite all citizens to report to continue dismantling these gangs,” highlighted the commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police.
