After an embarrassing and absurd day of detention and kidnapping, the professional soldiers Ángel Humberto González Garcés and Edgar Mina Carabalí were finally released last Tuesday night in Meta.
The release was achieved thanks to the humanitarian mediation of the Caquetá Ombudsman’s Office.
The regional defender, upon confirming the delivery of the uniformed men, posted a photo in X indicating: “They are in good health and on their way to meet their loved ones.”
The release of the soldiers, who had been held in the village of La Punta, in La Macarena, had been frustrated hours before when the same community that had them in their custody decided to hold them again, just when they were ready to be handed over.

The reason for this double kidnapping was revealed in a statement issued by the Corporation of Agricultural and Environmental Peasant Workers of Los Llanos del Yarí. The 60 Community Action Boards (JAC) in the area retained the uniformed men to use them as “warranty pledge” in exchange for the release of a captured woman.
According to the statement, the detention occurred after the capture of Mrs. Liceth Daza Hoyos, who was detained during an operation carried out on November 3 at the Villa Valentina farm.
The peasant union justified the retention of the soldiers by arguing that Mrs. Daza Hoyos, a mother who heads the household with three minors in her care, was not the objective of the operation nor the owner of the property, which placed her in “situation of special vulnerability.”
Although the Army did not comment on the context of the capture, it condemned the use of its soldiers as a “means of pressure” by criminal structures or communities that act under their influence.
