The salary and labor policy negotiation table today received the first formal proposal from the productive sector. The business unions presented their unified offer for the increase in the minimum wage that will govern in Colombia during the year 2026, betting on a single-digit increase.
The proposal is concrete: an increase of 7.21%.
How would the accounts look?
According to the businessmen’s offer, the objective is to protect purchasing power without putting the generation of formal employment at risk. In cash terms, the proposal translates as follows:
The increase in money: Workers would receive about $117,000 additional pesos each month, compared to the current salary in 2025.
The monthly total: Adding the basic salary and transportation assistance, a worker would earn a total of $1,740,554 pesos.

The argument of the business sector
The spokespersons for the unions argue that this figure of 7.21% is responsible for the economic reality of the country. Its position seeks a balance that allows companies to sustain themselves after a year of economic challenges, while adjusting workers’ income above projected inflation.
What’s coming now?
With this letter on the table, the most tense stage of the negotiation begins:
The counterproposal: It is expected that labor confederations and unions will present a higher figure, usually in double digits, seeking a greater recovery of income.
The deadline: Businessmen, workers and the Government have until December 15 to try to reach an agreed agreement.
Plan B: If there is no agreement by that date (or in subsequent extraordinary sessions), the National Government will define the increase by decree before December 30.
