The judicial situation of José Eduardo, the taxi driver who ran over 11 people in the San Cristóbal neighborhood, south of Bogotá, on November 8, worsened in the last hours.

The Prosecutor’s Office charged him with aggravated homicide, after the death of a 15-year-old minor was confirmed, who remained in critical condition for several days after the accident.

The driver, who was in the third degree of drunkenness, had already accepted charges of attempted murder and intentional personal injury, which is why he remains deprived of his liberty. However, the death of the teenager forced the prosecuting body to modify the accusation, significantly increasing the possible sentence.

During the hearing held on December 19, the Prosecutor’s Office explained that this is no longer an attempted crime, but rather a consummated aggravated homicide, based on intent, that is, on the driver’s awareness of the danger posed by driving while intoxicated.

Among the victims were three minors, including two brothers who remained hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Santa Clara Hospital.

The deceased minor, identified as Karol Stepanía, died on November 11 due to severe brain trauma resulting from the impact. The Prosecutor’s Office described his death as violent, which occurred in the context of a traffic incident.

Although the defendant did not accept the new charge, he will continue to be held while the criminal process progresses.
