President Gustavo Petro confirmed and reacted forcefully to the news that he, his wife, and his children have been included on the list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), popularly known as the Clinton List. The president used his X account to describe the measure as a “paradox” and assure that the decision is retaliation for his fight against drug trafficking.
“Indeed, Bernie Moreno’s threat was fulfilled, I and my children and my wife entered the OFAC list,” wrote the President, referring to the US senator’s previous warnings.
Petro defended his career and that of his government, pointing out the irony of the sanction. «Fighting against drug trafficking for decades and effectively brings me this measure from the government of the society that we help so much to stop their cocaine consumption. A complete paradox,” he said.
The president, who has maintained an open fight with Donald Trump’s administration, emphasized his position of resistance against US sanctions: “But not a step back and never on his knees.”
