The ITM University Institution declared itself in institutional mourning after confirming the death of Mr. Carlos Gustavo Villa Restrepo, father of the current rector of the entity, Alejandro Villa Gómez. The announcement was made known through an emotional official statement in which the institution, accredited in high quality, closed ranks around its director.
In the message, the academic and administrative body extended a hug of solidarity to the Villa Gómez family, highlighting the desire that the memory and legacy of Mr. Carlos Gustavo remain as a consolation in the face of his departure. “In these moments of deep pain, we send our solidarity and support, wishing you strength, serenity and peace,” the institutional letter dictated.
Support from the district administration
The news did not take long to generate echoes in the city’s public sector. The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, was one of the first to express his personal support for Rector Villa Gómez. Through an official statement, the president regretted the death and sent a message of brotherhood to those close to the director.
This gesture of solidarity on the part of the Mayor’s Office highlights the close relationship between the district administration and the ITM, a key piece in Medellín’s higher education system. For the moment, the institution is focused on accompanying its rector at his father’s funeral.
