The Cali Metropolitan Police provided new details about the tragic death of a two-month-old baby, found lifeless in a gutter inside a foundation located in the south of the city.
The baby was under the protection of an ICBF foundation in the Ciudad Jardín neighborhood.
According to the first investigations, the incident was allegedly caused by another minor who was also under the care of the children’s home.
According to authorities, the boy, just six years old, took advantage of a moment of inattention to take the baby out of the place.
“By reviewing the cameras, it is evident that the person who stole this baby from this nursery is another six-year-old infant, who takes him and takes him to a ditch inside the institution. This case is already at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office and the competent authorities for verification,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Jairo Sanabria, head of Protection and Special Services of the Cali Police.

Given the seriousness of the case, the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) sent a special commission of investigators from Bogotá to clarify what happened to both minors and review the protection conditions of the children’s home.
“We are extremely concerned considering that these types of foundations are operators of the ICBF and therefore are responsible, together with the State, for guaranteeing the rights of the boys and girls who remain there. The big question is how a two-month-old baby disappears from a room without anyone noticing”said the delegate representative Edward Hernández.
For its part, the foundation issued a statement in which it assured that it immediately notified the authorities and will fully collaborate with the investigation.
In addition, he expressed that he will assume the corresponding responsibility and reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and child well-being.
