The Ministry of Sports joined the voices of rejection after the serious incidents of violence recorded last Wednesday, December 17 at the Atanasio Girardot stadium.

During the classic between Independiente Medellín and Atlético Nacional, a sector of the fans carried out riots that marred the spectacle, causing an official statement from the ministerial portfolio within the framework of the National Commission for Safety, Comfort and Coexistence in Football.

Through a statement, the Ministry categorically rejected these behaviors, emphasizing that they are contrary to the principles of healthy coexistence.

The entity reaffirmed its commitment to work together with the Medellín Local Commission to apply the corresponding sanctions under Law 1453 of 2011.

The main objective is to achieve the individualization of those responsible so that they face the legal consequences of their actions, fully supporting the investigations carried out by the National Police.

The Ministry highlighted that these violent events affect inter-institutional work that has been carried out with professional clubs, the Dimayor and both public and private sectors.

This work seeks to strengthen security protocols and contingency plans in all cities in the country where professional football is celebrated, so that stadiums can once again be safe spaces for families.

Finally, the National Government assured that it will strictly monitor the decisions made by the Local Football Commission in Medellín.

The priority will be to prevent future acts of vandalism and ensure that sport continues to be a scene of peace and enjoyment for all fans.
