Violence once again took to the streets of the municipality of Maicao, in La Guajira, after a massacre recorded on the night of Friday, January 9, which left five people dead and at least two more seriously injured.

The attack occurred in the Altos de Parrantial neighborhood, where several people were gathered on a corner sharing when they were surprised by armed men.

According to preliminary information known to the authorities, the attackers arrived at the scene aboard a gray truck. Without saying a word, they got out of the vehicle and opened fire indiscriminately against the group, generating panic among the residents of the sector. After carrying out the attack, those responsible quickly fled in an unknown direction.

The fatal victims were identified as Eider, 33 years old; Janer, 24; Alex, 26; Jean Carlos, 28; and VĂ­ctor Manuel, 31 years old.

Two people were also injured in the incident, who were helped by the community and rushed to a healthcare center in Maicao, where they remain under medical observation.

This violent event would be the first massacre recorded in the department of La Guajira so far in 2026, which has generated a strong reaction of rejection from the community.

The authorities are carrying out investigative work to clarify the motives for the attack, which are not ruled out to be related to disputes between illegal armed groups operating in the area.
