Minute30.com .- The south of Cesar was stained with blood this Wednesday. An armed incursion in the Altos del Progreso neighborhood, in a rural area of the municipality of San Alberto, left three people murdered and a woman injured.
However, the quick reaction of the authorities made it possible to reach those responsible in a movie chase that ended with one hitman dead and another captured in the territory of Norte de Santander.
Terror in the Altos del Progreso neighborhood
The attack was devastating. Armed individuals broke into the sector and shot indiscriminately at a group of people. Colonel William Morales Vargas, commander of the Cesar Police, detailed the magnitude of the tragedy:
“Two of the victims died at the scene, while a third was taken to the local hospital, where he later lost his life due to the severity of his injuries.”
Identity of the victims
So far, authorities have managed to establish the identity of two of the deceased:
Luis Andrés Cubillos Zambrano, 25 years old.
Cristian Fernando Vargas Jaimes, 27 years old.
A woman, whose identity remains confidential, was injured and is receiving specialized medical attention in police custody.
The GOES neutralized the hitmen
After committing the triple homicide, the gunmen fled towards the department of Norte de Santander. They did not take into account that units of the Special Operations Group (GOES) had already activated a lock plan and verification work in the area.
Seeing themselves cornered, the criminals opened fire on the uniformed officers, unleashing an intense exchange of gunfire. The result of the operation was overwhelming; an alleged criminal killed and a second hitman captured, who has already been placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office.
Behind the attack: Who is responsible?
Police intelligence points to a high-impact structure. According to official information, the crime would have been perpetrated by the Conquering Self-Defense Forces of the Sierra Nevada (ACSN).
This criminal group, which maintains a strong presence in Magdalena, Cesar and La Guajira, seeks to expand its territorial control routes towards Catatumbo, which would explain the escape route of the hitmen towards Norte de Santander.
