After the outrages that occurred at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, after the final of the BetPlay Cup between DIM and Atlético Nacional, the authorities are working to catch all those responsible.

The Secretary of Security of Medellín announced that a specialized group is already extracting material from the 123 cameras to criminally prosecute those responsible for the excesses at the Atanasio Girardot.

After the violent clashes recorded at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, the Secretary of Security of Medellín, Manuel Villa, issued a harsh warning against those responsible.

In a forceful tone, the official assured that the administration will not limit itself to administrative sanctions, but will seek criminal consequences for all those involved, regardless of their role within the structures of the bars.

Villa revealed that, since yesterday, an exclusive group of investigators has been carefully analyzing the recordings of security system 1, 2, 3.

“Leaders, logisticians and even prop workers will fall”: Manuel Villa warns that there will be no impunity after excesses in Atanasio

The objective is to identify each individual who participated in the fights to deliver the evidentiary material to the Attorney General’s Office.

“There are the faces of the subjects. Some believe they go unnoticed; some pose as leaders, others as logisticians, administrators or even props. Let’s go for everyone,” said Villa.

The secretary explained that, once the film evidence is collected, the complaints will be classified under criminal types that include personal injuries, attempted homicide and damage to public property.

Defense of police procedure

Faced with criticism for the lack of immediate arrests in the facility, Villa was emphatic in explaining the strategy of the Unified Command Post (PMU).

According to the secretary, the absolute priority was to preserve life and avoid a greater tragedy. The number one priority was to break up the massive fights and avoid human losses.

The entry of the public force (UNDEMO) was done forcefully to contain the invasion of the field.

Villa clarified that, since no arrests were made in flagrante delicto so as not to neglect the safety of the rest of the attendees, the path now is subsequent judicialization.

“As much as it shocks us, if there is no flagrante delicto, it cannot be captured only with the video at the time. That video is delivered to the Prosecutor’s Office, the crime is proven and it is the justice system that issues the arrest warrant. And we are going to go look for them,” the official explained.

The mayor’s office seeks to set a precedent similar to the criminal process that Atlético Nacional fans still face for events that occurred two years ago.

Villa closed his intervention by reaffirming the position of Federico Gutiérrez’s administration: “We remain firm in the culture of peace, but also in bringing sanctions to those we have to take,” he concluded.
