A terrifying case of domestic violence shocks Cali. Yeison Melo, 27, was sent to a prison while the process against him progresses for the murder of his grandmother, a 68-year-old dressmaker whose body would have been cremated and partially buried inside her own home.
The events occurred between October 9 and 13, 2023, in a house in the Alfonso López neighborhood. According to the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office and Sijín, Melo had been living with the victim for three months, after having obtained conditional release for a previous conviction. It was in that home where, according to the evidence, the crime would have been perpetrated.
The authorities found human remains cremated in an oven at the residence, as well as bone fragments buried in several pots in the area. At the request of the prosecuting body, these remains were subjected to DNA tests, which made it possible to confirm the identity of the woman and link the alleged perpetrator.

After analyzing the evidence material, a prosecutor from the Cali Section charged Melo with the crimes of aggravated homicide and concealment, alteration or destruction of material evidence. During the concentrated hearings, the judge in the case decided to impose a security measure on him in a prison facility.
The arrest warrant was executed on November 19 in Jamundí (Valle del Cauca) by Sijín units, which accompanied the entire investigative process.
The case remains under study while proceedings continue that could completely clarify the details of the crime.
