The case for the murder of the student Jaime Esteban, brutally beaten on October 31 in Bogotá, continues to add unusual episodes worthy of a script.
While the defense of the accused Juan Carlos assured the judge that his client was still “active student” from the University of Los Andes, but the institution itself categorically denied that version.
In an official document, the University of Los Andes confirmed that Juan Carlos has not been enrolled since the second semester of 2023, thus dismantling the argument with which his lawyer sought to justify a more benign security measure than prison.
“Mr. Juan Carlos Suárez Ortiz was enrolled as an undergraduate student until the second semester of 2023”reported Los Andes, making it clear that the defendant’s university years were in the past.

The process was rescheduled for next Wednesday, November 12 at 9:00 am, according to judicial authorities.
Prior to the accident, the office had already declared a recess to review the documents presented by the parties.
In the session, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Attorney General’s Office and the representation of the victims insisted that Suárez should be sent to prison, arguing that he represents a danger to society and that the evidence demonstrates his active participation in the homicide of Jaime Esteban.
Now, with the truth documented and the judge recovering, the next hearing will be decisive to know if Juan Carlos remains free or ends up behind bars.
