The transition in Venezuela after the capture of Nicolás Maduro has taken on a dizzying pace. Following the announcement of the closure of El Helicoide by order of Donald Trump, the names of the first political prisoners who have regained their freedom have been confirmed.
This gesture by interim president Delcy Rodríguez seeks to calm the waters in Venezuela and respond to the demands of the international community that had been denouncing arbitrary detentions for years.
Among the names that are already free, key figures of the civil and political resistance stand out: Juan Pablo Guanipa, one of the most visible leaders of the Vente Venezuela movement, and Javier Tarazona, director of Fundaredes, who had been imprisoned for years after denouncing the presence of Colombian guerrillas on Venezuelan soil.
The departure of Rafael Tudares, son-in-law of former candidate Edmundo González, and Captain Juan Carlos Caguaripano, one of the most emblematic dissident military personnel, was also confirmed.

Added to this list are human rights defender Rocío San Miguel and former presidential candidate Enrique Márquez, who were considered political trophies of the deposed regime.
The release of these citizens is seen as a necessary step before the meeting that Delcy Rodríguez will hold with President Gustavo Petro in Bogotá, where the democratic future of the neighboring country and the stabilization of the region after the bombings and the US military operation will be discussed.
Despite these releases, the Penal Forum warns that there are still hundreds of people behind bars, including more than 170 soldiers.
The expectation now focuses on the total emptying of El Helicoide before its doors are permanently closed, as ordered by the White House.
For now, the return of these leaders to their homes marks the beginning of a new political stage that has the entire world with its eyes on Caracas.
