Minute30.com .- What began as an alleged case of “justice by one’s own hands” after alleged sexual harassment on public transportation, took an unexpected turn for the authorities in Medellín. A couple was captured and must now answer to the Prosecutor’s Office for the murder of a 26-year-old man, which occurred in the Manrique neighborhood.

The events occurred on Carrera 28 and Calle 108, when surveillance patrols intercepted a public service bus and observed how a seriously injured man with a sharp weapon was taken off.

While the man died in the clinic, the police’s field work at the bus site revealed a different reality. Other passengers and eyewitnesses denied the woman’s version of “alleged touching.” Photo: Police

The initial version: The alleged harassment

At the scene, a 30-year-old woman approached the uniformed officers stating that the injured man had touched her private parts while they were traveling in the vehicle. According to his first account, three subjects who witnessed the harassment reacted violently and attacked him with a knife before fleeing.

The patrol, prioritizing life, urgently transferred the injured man to a clinic in the north of Medellín. However, due to the severity of the injuries – mainly to vital organs – the man died shortly after entering the care center.

The dramatic turn: Witnesses distorted the story

While the man died in the clinic, the police’s field work at the bus site revealed a different reality. Other passengers and eyewitnesses denied the woman’s version.

According to the new statements collected by the uniformed officers, the woman and her companion (a 26-year-old man) would have been the real aggressors, and not unknown third parties as initially suggested. Given the testimonial evidence and the search carried out on the occupants of the bus, the patrol proceeded to immediately capture both of them.

Investigation in the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office

Now, investigators must clarify whether the case of harassment really existed or if it was an alibi to justify the attack. The interception of the bus and the searches carried out by the Police were key to arresting the alleged perpetrators before they left the area.

This case reopens the debate on vigilante justice and the veracity of complaints in times of disruption of public order in the transportation system.
