The former mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero Calle, has suffered a significant political setback in his presidential aspirations. The National Registry of Civil Status has denied the registration of the signature collection committee with which the former president intended to endorse his candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic.
The decision of the Registry is based on the fact that the previous registration of Daniel Quintero as a pre-candidate in the internal consultation of the Historical Pact was final. Therefore, the electoral body concluded that Quintero is legally disqualified from participating as a candidate through a different mechanism, such as collecting signatures, “in the same electoral process.”

This determination confirms the initial warnings about the risk of dual candidacies. Quintero, who had recently withdrawn from the Historical Pact consultation arguing that the National Electoral Council (CNE) had turned it into an interparty consultation, now sees his strategy of seeking citizen endorsement by signatures frustrated.
The Registrar’s Office thus closes the path to the aspiration for Quintero’s signatures, leaving the former mayor in a complex situation to participate in the 2026 presidential race.
It’s official now! Daniel Quintero cannot be a candidate for the Presidency: the Registrar’s Office denied him collecting signatures
