Minute30.com .- Brigadier General William Oswaldo Rincón Zambrano, General Director of the National Police, issued a forceful message of rejection and institutional pain in the face of the series of terrorist attacks that occurred in the last hours in Norte de Santander.
The director described the events as a “criminal and cowardly attack,” expressing the deep sadness that overwhelms the institution and the Colombian nation. His vehement rejection focused on the two attacks perpetrated in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta.
The most serious of the attacks took place in Cúcuta, where the terrorist action claimed the lives of two brave soldiers: Mayor Franklin Alfonso Guerrero Yáñez and Deputy Mayor Jairo Andrés Holguín Calderón. Director Rincón Zambrano extended his total solidarity, respect and support to the families of the murdered police officers, who represent an irreparable loss for the National Police and for the country.
Simultaneously, the CAI Morichal, located in the municipality of Villa del Rosario, was the subject of another criminal action. This second attack left two police officers injured, who, fortunately, are in stable condition thanks to the prompt and effective care provided by the institution’s emergency teams. These attacks demonstrate the coordination and escalation of violence by illegal armed groups.
The first lines of investigation handled by the authorities indicate that these violent acts would be a direct retaliation by the Organized Armed Group (GAO) ‘ELN’. This retaliation would occur in response to the forceful offensive actions that the National Police has been carrying out in a sustained manner against the criminal and delinquent structures of the guerrilla group in the region, significantly affecting its operational capacity.
In the face of this terrorist escalation, Brigadier General Rincón Zambrano has issued strict orders to deploy all of the intelligence and criminal investigation capabilities of the National Police. The primary objective is clear: to identify, locate and bring to justice all those materially and intellectually responsible for these crimes. Firmly, the director concluded his message by assuring: “We will not rest until we achieve it!”
