Minute30.com .- A serious complaint shakes the political landscape of Antioquia and once again puts the controversial senator of the Historical Pact, Isabel Cristina Zuleta, in the eye of the hurricane. Internal documents of the National Police, revealed by Semana Magazine, indicate an alleged and irregular interference by a member of its Legislative Work Unit (UTL) in the investigation of the kidnapping and murder of the mining leader Jaime Alonso Gallego, known in the sector as “Mongo”.

The events focus on the actions of Johan Edisson Giraldo, the congresswoman’s advisor, who allegedly took the only witness to the crime—the murdered leader’s bodyguard—shortly after he regained his freedom, directly interfering in the judicial process.

The crime that shook the Northeast of Antioquia

The case that gave rise to this controversy began on March 3, 2025, when Jaime Alonso Gallego was kidnapped on the road that connects the municipalities of Vegachí and Amalfi. Six days later, his body was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds. The murder gained national relevance when President Gustavo Petro publicly pointed out alias “Máximo” or “Sebastián” as the alleged intellectual author of the event, and who was later captured.

The only key witness to identify the executioners was the bodyguard of the mining leader, who had also been kidnapped. However, what seemed like a clear route for the Prosecutor’s Office became “confusing” and “contradictory” after Giraldo’s appearance on the scene.

The mysterious intervention of the UTL advisor

According to police records published by Semana, Johan Edisson Giraldo arrived at the La Marquesa service station, on the national highway, identifying himself with his UTL credential belonging to Senator Zuleta. Investigators wonder today: How did the advisor know the exact point where the witness was? And under what authority was the bodyguard who was under police protection taken away?

Official sources indicated that, after the transfer by Giraldo, the witness’s subsequent statements were incoherent and, in the words of the investigators, seemed “bookish.” This is not the first time that this advisor’s name appears in intelligence reports; Previously, generals of the Army and the Police had already denounced alleged interference on their part in operations carried out in the department of Antioquia.

The silence of Isabel Zuleta and the controversy with the press

Senator Isabel Cristina Zuleta has described these accusations as “inexplicable persecution and political violence” against her. However, the controversy escalated when, instead of answering the questions posed by the media, the congresswoman published on her social networks the phone number and photograph of the journalist who contacted her.

This act has been interpreted as a serious violation of press freedom and a deliberate exposure of the communicator to risks to his physical integrity. Meanwhile, justice is trying to determine whether the intervention of his advisor sought to protect the witness or, on the contrary, hinder the clarification of the murder of Jaime Gallego.
A complex judicial landscape

This new scandal adds to the investigation that is already weighing on the senator for the so-called “tarimazo”, related to the alleged irregular departure of criminal leaders from the Itagüí prison to participate in political events in the Alpujarra.

The situation of Johan Edisson Giraldo is today a key piece in a puzzle that involves national security, human rights and the transparency of the legislative exercise in Antioquia. The community of Amalfi and Vegachí demands justice for “Mongo”, while the institutions must answer why a civilian was allowed to intervene in a judicial custody of such importance.
