The Ministry of Labor, through the Tolima Territorial Directorate, ordered the immediate cessation of the civil works that were being carried out in an area of the Tolima Sports Club facilities.
The drastic measure is due to the multiple and serious breaches in terms of safety and health at work by the contracting company, Eje Construcciones SAS, classified as risk level V, and the lack of adequate monitoring by the club.
During the inspection, a lack of basic and mandatory documentation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System was reportedly found.
Neither the Tolima Sports Club nor the contractor could provide or evidence essential documents such as safe work procedures, emergency plan, construction signage, evacuation plans and routes, brigade minutes or support for drills and training plans.
MinTrabajo orders immediate stoppage of works in Deportes Tolima due to occupational risks
These findings represent, Mintrabajo indicated, a serious and imminent risk to the life and integrity of the workers who work in the initial phase of what will be the club’s new high-performance center.
The stoppage of the work will only be lifted once the Territorial Directorate verifies and accredits full compliance with the minimum standards of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (SG-SST) by Club Deportes Tolima and the contractor Eje Construcciones SAS.
The Ministry reiterates its commitment to the protection of workers’ rights and requires the companies involved to act quickly to correct deficiencies and resume work under safe conditions.
