With the aim of strengthening the travel experience and improving coexistence in one of the busiest points of the system, TransMilenio carried out a comprehensive intervention in the 20 de Julio Portal, which is already beginning to reflect positive results both in the behavior of users and in the operation of the service.

According to the entity, the actions implemented combine pedagogy, culture, infrastructure and security, in coordination with the Mass Transportation Police Command.

Thanks to this strategy, a 57% increase in portal entry validations was evident, an indicator that reflects a significant reduction in payment evasion.

Awareness and coexistence

As part of strengthening the social fabric within the system, TransMilenio has developed awareness days on security and coexistence, with the support of the Local Mayor’s Office of San Cristóbal, the Secretariat of Security and the National Police.

Additionally, a pedagogical takeover against harassment was carried out, in coordination with the Secretariat for Women and the Secretariat of Education, in order to socialize the care routes against gender-based violence and promote the safe appropriation of the space by women, students and other users.

Within the framework of the TransMilenio–IDPYBA agreement, the 20 de Julio Portal was also incorporated into the routes of the veterinary team, in charge of evaluating the health status of companion animals that travel in the system, providing care recommendations and promoting responsible practices.

Culture and art as tools of transformation

The portal is part of the “Essays on Happiness in TransMi” initiative, developed within the framework of the BOG25 International Art and City Biennial. There, spaces were intervened with three giant murals of approximately 500 square meters, created by local groups, as part of the agreement “Good Things Happen at TransMi”, signed with the Ministry of Culture, Recreation and Sports and IDIPRON.

As part of the infrastructure improvements, seven floor-to-ceiling access control barriers were installed at Portal 20 de Julio, prioritizing this point due to the high evasion rates.

These devices have electromechanical components and high-tech validators, which guarantee a more orderly and secure entry.

To guarantee inclusion, the portal has special accesses with motorized hallway barriers, designed for people with disabilities or large sizes.
