Minute30.com .- The Ombudsman, Iris Marín Ortiz, raised a serious complaint to the National Government by confirming the death of more adolescents in recent military operations.

Marín Ortiz stated that a female teenager died in a bombing in Arauca, and that four other teenagers, a woman and three men, died in an operation in Puerto Santander, Amazonas, on October 1.

Ombudsman demands suspension of bombings

Given these events, the Ombudsman was emphatic in demanding that the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, suspend “bombings against targets where minors may be recruited.” At the same time, the Ombudsman’s Office demanded that illegal armed groups unconditionally release all minors who have been victims of forced recruitment.

Petro refuses to suspend bombings

President Gustavo Petro responded to the Ombudsman’s request with a firm stance, arguing that a suspension of the bombings could have a counterproductive effect.

According to the president: “If the bombings are suspended, the bosses are going to recruit more boys and girls, because they will realize that this way they will cover themselves from greater military risks.”

Recruitment and Reporting Figures

The president defended his government’s strategy, ensuring that the recruitment of minors has been reduced by 34% during his administration.

Finally, Petro pointed out Iván Mordisco as the largest recruiter of minors in the country and announced that he will denounce him before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
