After eight months of investigation, the authorities managed to dismantle the criminal structure known as ‘The Island’, dedicated to micro-narcotics trafficking in the town of Kennedy, southwest of Bogotá. The operation left seven people captured, who were sent to prison by decision of a judge.

The procedure was carried out by the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, through the Criminal Investigation Section (SIJIN), with the support of the Secretariat of Security and in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office. According to the authorities, the organization had influence in sectors such as El Amparo, María Paz and areas surrounding the Abastos plant, where it distributed illicit substances on a permanent basis.

During the investigative process, surveillance work, telephone interceptions, morphological comparisons and undercover activities were carried out, which made it possible to establish the role of each of the members of this criminal structure, made up of seven men.

In the operation, seven search and search procedures were carried out, which culminated in the capture by court order of all the alleged members. Among them is alias ‘Julián’, identified as the leader of the organization and allegedly responsible for the manufacture and storage of the drugs. Also arrested was alias ‘Óscar’, who, according to investigations, coordinated the distribution of narcotics among dealers.

During the procedures, the authorities seized more than 150 grams of Tussi, seven bottles of ketamine – a substance used to make hallucinogenic drugs – and seven cell phones, elements that would have been used for criminal activity.

The authorities reported that several of those captured had judicial records for crimes such as drug trafficking, theft and illegal possession of firearms. After the preliminary hearings, a judge imposed a security measure on them in a penitentiary and prison center for the crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime and trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics.

With this operation, the criminal income of the organization was affected by more than 50 million pesos per month. Finally, the Ministry of Security reiterated the call to citizens to report any criminal act through line 123.
