Minute30.com .- Cali closes 2025 with a security balance that marks a before and after in its recent history. According to preliminary figures from the National Police, analyzed by the Security Observatory, the first two years of Mayor Alejandro Eder’s administration recorded the lowest number of homicides compared to the beginning of any other administration in the capital of the Valley.

Between 2024 and 2025, the city reported 2,003 cases of violent deaths (938 in 2024 and 1,065 in 2025). When comparing this data with the first two years of the previous government, when 2,289 cases were registered, the balance is clear: 286 lives were saved.

The five least violent years: Eder leads the statistics

The Secretary of Security and Justice, Jairo García, stressed that since 1995 (the year in which rigorous statistics began to be kept), two of the five years with the fewest homicides have occurred under the current mandate.

2024 was positioned as the best year in history with 938 cases, while 2025, with 1,065 cases, remained in the line of containment compared to past periods (such as 2021, where the figure climbed to 1,220). “We are facing a strategy that prioritized life. 2025 was a year of containment and we achieved the lowest figures in homicides of women and young people,” García highlighted.

Protection of the most vulnerable: Youth and Women

Disaggregated data shows a significant reduction in key populations:

Youths: During this Mayor’s Office, 908 cases have been presented, a figure notably lower than the average of the last nine administrations, which stood at 1,964 homicides.

Women: 130 cases were registered in the first two years, compared to 149 in the same period of the previous administration.

The “blow” to theft: The MIO regains security

2025 was also the year of systematic reduction in theft. According to the report, almost all types of theft showed a downward trend, highlighting security in the mass transportation system:

Theft in the MIO: It fell more than 50%.

Theft from people: Decreased 18% (from 21,992 in 2024 to 18,037 in 2025).

Cell phone theft: Reduced by 27%.

Theft from residences: Fell 23%.

However, the authorities are keeping a close eye on motorcycle theft, which was the only modality that registered an increase of 14%.

Cali, leader in arrests of murderers nationwide

Police operations under the command of General Edwin Urrego, commander of the Metropolitan Police, were key to these results. During 2025, Cali established itself as the city with the most arrests of murderers in the entire country.

Operating balance 2025:

Total arrests: 6,704 people (453 of them for homicide).

Hit on gangs: 494 members of criminal structures behind bars.

Firearms: 1,320 weapons seized and off the streets.

Drug trafficking: Nearly 4 tons of drugs seized in urban areas.

With these results, Cali begins 2026 with the challenge of maintaining the decreasing trend in violence, supported by checkpoints and judicial prioritization that has characterized the district security strategy.
