For five days, the National Police carried out a simultaneous operation in Bogotá, Cali, Barranquilla, Santa Marta and in 13 departments of the country, with the objective of dismantling networks dedicated to extortion, kidnapping and other criminal activities. The result was described by the authorities as one of the largest blows in recent months, achieving the capture of 154 people linked to different criminal structures.

Among those detained are members of the Clan del Golfo, the FARC dissidents and the self-proclaimed Conquering Self-Defense Forces of the Sierra Nevada, as well as members of other criminal groups and criminal gangs that operated in various regions of the country. According to the official report, these organizations sought to exert pressure and fear on merchants and communities, affecting security and tranquility in urban and rural areas.

During the operation, which combined intelligence, monitoring and coordinated actions on the ground, firearms, ammunition, a grenade, suppliers, motorcycles and more than two hundred electronic devices were also seized. In addition, narcotic substances were seized that, according to the Police, were used to finance illicit activities.

The authorities pointed out that each capture and each seizure represents one less risk for families and merchants, and highlighted that the operation reflects the coordination between different units to confront structures that sought to expand their criminal economies through intimidation.

The Police affirmed that these results strengthen security in several regions of the country and reiterated their commitment to continue dismantling networks dedicated to crime, in order to guarantee conditions of coexistence for citizens who demand to live in peace.
