A shocking video reached the family of Belisario Peñaranda, an adult over 80 years old who was kidnapped in October in the rural area of Sardinata, Norte de Santander.

In the video, he appears in an improvised tent in the middle of the jungle; The man appears visibly exhausted, emaciated and with a broken voice as he pleads for help.

“I wish you well, because I am in a very tragic situation… If you do not act quickly and fix things, I will die here.”says Peñaranda, with a tone that reflects the physical and emotional deterioration suffered during the days of captivity.

“Get your act together and help me get out of here… remember that you have a dad,” he prays in the video, which is already circulating among authorities and victim advocacy organizations.

The grandfather, visibly malnourished and weak, also insists that his children seek financial help to facilitate their release: “Look for a loan… I know you don’t have money, but so many friends who say they have, help me for God’s sake.”

Olguín Mayorga, president of the National Association of Victims, recalled that a similar case occurred with Mr. Sanín, 86 years old, whose whereabouts remain unknown. “This shows that these people do not respect the elderly. They only seek economic goals,” he stated.

The kidnapping of older adults has generated deep indignation in humanitarian organizations, which call for urgent action to locate Peñaranda alive.
