Minute30.com .- A family outing ended in tragedy this Monday, November 17, in a spa in La Boquilla, in Cartagena. A 47-year-old man died instantly after being struck by lightning while bathing in the sea.
The victim had arrived at the beaches of La Boquilla from a town in Sabanalarga, Atlántico, along with family and neighbors to enjoy a pleasant time.
This is how the tourist died
The moment of recreation was interrupted when it began to rain in La Boquilla, accompanied by strong thunder and lightning. According to witnesses, the man was apparently bathing in the sea when a loud sound was heard that alerted all the people on the beach.
According to the reports, the victim immediately collapsed on the sand when hit by the electric shock. Although he was helped, unfortunately he arrived at the medical center without vital signs, confirming his death at the moment of impact.
Old beliefs about the sea and thunderstorms
It has always been said that it is not safe to go into the sea during a thunderstorm; And salt water is a good conductor of electricity.
When lightning strikes the sea, the current spreads quickly over the surface and can electrocute anyone swimming.
Many mothers advise their children to stay away from it, since water is a conductor of electricity; However, the tourist apparently did not remember “Mom’s advice.”
