There is decisive progress in the clarification of the tragic death of Jaime Esteban Moreno, the student who lost his life after a brutal attack in Bogotá in the early hours of October 31. Ricardo González, accused by the videos of having delivered the kick that was fatal to the young man, surrendered this Monday before the Prosecutor’s Office in the city of Cartagena.
González is the second person involved in the case that is made available to the authorities. The first arrested and prosecuted was Juan Carlos Suárez Ortiz.
The fact that González turned himself in far from the capital, accompanied by his lawyer, Gladys Marcela López, suggests a defense strategy. The lawyer declared to the media present at the Cartagena Prosecutor’s Office that her client “never had the intention of leaving the country, much less taking refuge in Venezuela.”

The surrender of Ricardo González occurs more than ten days after the crime, which originated after a fight outside the Before nightclub. The Prosecutor’s Office had established González’s participation conclusively after analyzing the security recordings that recorded the attack on Moreno.
González’s appearance in court is a crucial step in the judicial process. The Prosecutor’s Office must now compare the statements of those involved with the evidence collected to determine the responsibility of each one in the tragic loss of Jaime Esteban Moreno, a case that has generated national commotion.
