The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez Zuluaga, has placed social emphasis as the fundamental pillar of the historic renovation of the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.
The president assured that both interior and exterior vendors of the sports complex will be protected and included in the project.
During his statements, the president highlighted that the renovation goes “beyond square meters”, seeking to significantly improve the experience of attendees, but prioritizing the well-being of families who depend on commerce in the stadium.
“For me the social issue is fundamental,” said Mayor Gutiérrez. “If this was handed over to a private party, the first ones to leave would be the innkeepers and I was not going to allow that.”
One of the key announcements is the intention to transform the status of sellers, elevating them to the category of merchants.
This process will involve a comprehensive training plan so that they can better manage their businesses and offer a higher quality service experience, in line with the improvement of the stadium’s infrastructure.
According to what was explained by the mayor, the vendors will be trained in business administration, food handling and customer service.
Great social goal! Fico guarantees that the mega-project of the Atanasio Girardot stadium protects the innkeepers
The goal is that, by improving the stadium, they also offer better service to visitors.
The purpose of the district representative is the protection of the innkeepers. «They have brought their families forward and they will continue to bring them forward. They are going to be better,” Fico guaranteed.
The mayor recalled a measure implemented in his first administration, which laid the foundations for current protection.
He reported that previously, the operation and the sellers’ money were managed by a few “private individuals” who were not from the area and who benefited without working directly.
“I removed those contracts that a very few had and gave them directly to the sellers,” Gutiérrez highlighted.
This decision, which eliminated the intermediaries, is now consolidated with the security of its permanence in the renovation project.
With the measure, the “great concern” that existed about the future of the sellers if the project had been handed over to a private party for a prolonged period is dispelled.
With these guarantees, the Mayor’s Office seeks to make the renovation of the Atanasio Girardot a model of social inclusion and economic progress, ensuring that the most beneficiaries are those who have dedicated their lives to working at the sports complex.
