The National Government has formalized the extension of the national Disaster Situation for a period of one more year, in response to the serious and persistent effects of climate variability in the country.

The measure, initially declared in November 2024, was made official through a decree issued this November 12, 2025. The extension is carried out in order to strengthen the response capacity in emergencies, accelerate the rehabilitation and reconstruction processes of affected areas, and improve the coordination of all the entities involved.

The extension of the measure will be for a period of 12 additional months, counted from the expiration of the period established in the initial decree. This underlines the Government’s concern about the climate phenomena that continue to impact the territory.

The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) will continue to lead the monitoring and control of all actions aimed at mitigating impacts and supporting the recovery of affected communities, in accordance with the provisions of current regulations.

The extension of the disaster situation implies that the special regulations contemplated in Law 1523 will continue to apply. This means that both public, private and community organizations must maintain and reinforce the necessary procedures to guarantee the effectiveness of care and prevention measures throughout the prolonged climate emergency.
