With the clear message that hunger does not take a break, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín announced that during the month of December, nutritional care for girls, boys and pregnant and lactating women will remain active through the Buen Comienzo program.
The mayor’s office reported that, despite the holiday season and end-of-year celebrations, the Nourish to Heal, Heal to Grow program will continue to operate, in order to guarantee timely support for the early childhood population who present risks of malnutrition or food insecurity.
According to the Mayor’s Office, families will be able to report cases related to low weight, malnutrition, nutritional risk or difficulties in accessing food, through the telephone line (604) 385 55 55, extension 9896, enabled throughout the month of December to channel specialized care.
The mayor’s office highlighted that the comprehensive approach of the program allows not only to intervene early, but also to strengthen healthy eating habits in homes, contributing to the physical and cognitive development of minors from their first years of life.

The authorities highlighted that this constant support has had positive results. According to official figures, the rate of acute malnutrition in Medellín went from close to 1% in 2023 to less than 0.5% in 2025, a significant reduction that reflects the impact of public policies focused on children.
Finally, the authorities called on citizens not to ignore warning signs and use the available institutional channels, remembering that timely nutritional care can make a difference in the well-being and future of thousands of girls and boys in the city.
