It’s official! The mayor of Barranquilla, Alejandro Char, confirmed the award of the expansion works for the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan stadium.

This ambitious project will have an investment of more than 45 million dollars, financed through citizens’ taxes.

With this initiative, the administration seeks to transform the sports scene into an international level venue that lives up to the city’s soccer passion.

Although construction work will begin immediately, the Junior de Barranquilla fans will be able to enjoy one last match in the current structure.

The president assured that on January 15, the “shark” team will host Santa Fe to play the Super League match.

This event will serve as a symbolic farewell and a thank you to the “Metro” for the joys provided before giving way to its total modernization.

Mayor Char highlighted that this project represents the fulfillment of a dream for the people of Barranquilla, promising a stadium that will be “on another level” once the works are completed.

With the firm purpose of enhancing the sports infrastructure of the “Golden Gate”, the expansion not only seeks greater capacity, but also offers a cutting-edge experience for attendees.
