A 36-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years and 9 months in prison for trying to murder his former permanent partner in Cali, Valle del Cauca. The decision was made by a criminal circuit judge, after the Attorney General’s Office presented compelling evidence that demonstrated the responsibility of Óscar Iván Gómez in a case of attempted aggravated femicide.
According to the investigation, the events occurred on August 25, 2024 in the Mojica I neighborhood. The victim, 26 years old, had decided to end the five-year relationship with Gómez due to the physical, verbal and psychological abuse she suffered.

After the breakup, the man attacked the woman from behind with a blunt weapon, causing head injuries that resulted in a 12-day medical-legal disability.

The Prosecutor’s Office determined that the attack was due to a pattern of gender violence, framed within a cycle of continuous abuse carried out by the aggressor.
As part of the sentence, Gómez was disqualified from exercising public rights or functions during the same period of the sentence and must serve his sentence in a prison.
