Minute30.com .- After 12 days of uncertainty, freedom returned for the brothers Hugo and Luis González Godoy. The two citizens, who had been kidnapped on January 9 in the rural area of ​​the municipality of Tame, Arauca, were handed over in the last few hours to a humanitarian commission led by international organizations and the Church.

The liberation process took place in a remote area of ​​the department, where members of the National Liberation Army (ELN) handed over the brothers to the delegates who facilitated the humanitarian corridor.

The Ombudsman’s Office confirmed that the success of the operation was possible thanks to the coordination of three key actors:

International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC): Those who verified the health status of those released.

Ombudsman’s Office: Organization that provided legal and human rights support.

Catholic Church: Institution that served as a bridge of trust between the armed group and the families.

Arauca: 5 kidnappings in less than a month

Despite the joy of Hugo and Luis’s return to their homes, the authorities raised alarm bells due to the security situation in the department. So far in 2026, Arauca has already reported five kidnapped people, which shows that this scourge continues to be used by illegal armed groups as a pressure tool.

“We urge illegal armed groups to immediately and unconditionally release all the people they have deprived of their liberty,” the Ombudsman’s Office stated through social networks.

After the delivery, the brothers were transferred to an urban center to receive medical attention and be reunited with their loved ones.
