The Colombian judoka Francisco José Balanta was crowned Bolivarian champion in the -100 kilogram category within the framework of the XX Bolivarian Games Ayacucho – Lima 2025.

On Tuesday, December 2, at the 03 Sports Center in La Videna, Balanta demonstrated a combination of strategy, technique and winning mentality to win the gold medal.

His path to the title began with a resounding victory in the main draw against Venezuelan Samuel Corzo, whom he beat with an ippon, ensuring his passage to the final.

In the final fight for gold, the Colombian representative faced the Chilean Thomás Briceño.

After a close and demanding match, Balanta sealed his victory with a quick and decisive movement that allowed him to make a new ippon.

This individual achievement adds to the general performance of the judo delegation, which has had an outstanding performance in the multidisciplinary event, contributing a gold metal to the Colombian medal table.

The day was also productive for national judo with the achievement of four silver medals in different categories. Brigitte Carabalí won silver in the +78 kg. after falling in the final against the Venezuelan Karen León.

Likewise, Luisa Bonilla took second place in the -70 kg, and Brenda Olaya took second place in the -78 kg category. Finally, Daniel Paz added another silver for the country at the conclusion of his presentation in the -90 kg.

With these results, Colombian judo accumulates a total of eight medals in two days of competition: one gold, six silver and one bronze.

The discipline will conclude its participation this Wednesday, December 3, with the shiai team and kata competitions, where the national delegation will seek to continue adding victories for the country.
