A new blow against theft was recorded in western Medellín, after a joint operation between the Mayor’s Office of Medellín and the National Police allowed the capture of four people accused of committing robberies in the form of robbery in the Laureles sector.

The procedure was carried out on Carrera 73 and Calle 42, where police units intercepted a vehicle in which the alleged perpetrators were traveling, minutes after a robbery was reported in the area. The quick reaction of the patrols allowed them to block their path and prevent their escape.

During the operation, the authorities managed to recover eight high-end cell phones, which had recently been stolen from citizens of the sector. In addition, a pistol-type weapon was seized, which, according to preliminary investigations, would have been used to intimidate the victims during the assaults.

The four detainees were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office, an entity that will advance the prosecution process for crimes related to theft and illegal possession of weapons.

The mayor’s office highlighted this result as part of the strategy of territorial control and immediate reaction that is maintained in prioritized areas of the city, especially in sectors with a high influx of citizens.

The authorities reiterated the call to the community to report any suspicious incident in a timely manner.
