What seemed like a quiet week of festivities ended in a tragedy that has shocked the inhabitants of the Cartagena neighborhood, in Facatativá. After noticing that four of their neighbors had not shown any signs of life since last Sunday, December 21, the community decided to alert the authorities.

The uncertainty led one of the residents of the area to approach the house, where he felt a penetrating smell that forced him to break a window to enter.

Upon entering, he found a heartbreaking scene: the four inhabitants of the building were lying on the ground without vital signs.

Upon arriving at the site, the uniformed Police confirmed the discovery of the bodies and immediately ruled out signs of violence, such as forced locks or disorder that suggested a robbery or an attack.

The main hypothesis that investigators are using is massive carbon monoxide poisoning, presumably caused by a gas leak inside the home.

The victims, four adults of Venezuelan nationality, had arrived in the municipality a few months ago with the hope of working in flower companies in the region and resided in the Las Palmas sector.

The details of the survey carried out by the CTI revealed that three of the people died in one of the rooms, while the fourth victim was found in the bathroom.

This “silent threat,” as experts define carbon monoxide, is extremely dangerous because it has no odor or color, allowing it to accumulate in closed spaces without people noticing until they lose consciousness.

The authorities recalled that this gas can cause serious neurological damage or immediate death due to asphyxiation if there is no adequate ventilation.

While forensic personnel advance technical verifications to confirm the exact origin of the leak, the house remains cordoned off for the collection of evidence.
