The former Minister of Finance Ricardo Bonilla presented a health decompensation associated with an episode of low blood pressure, a situation that forced the immediate intervention of medical personnel while he remains confined at the Center for Higher Studies of the Police (CESPO), in Bogotá.

According to information known to the W Radiothe event was recorded on Saturday, December 20, which led to a priority medical evaluation within the detention center, where Bonilla is carrying out an intramural security measure ordered by the Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Bogotá, within the framework of the investigation into the corruption scandal in the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).

The state of health of the former minister has been the subject of special attention due to recent medical history. A few months ago, Bonilla suffered a cerebral ischemic attack, after which he presented motor aphasia, a condition that affects his ability to communicate and requires permanent clinical monitoring. According to the defense, this episode even led him to remain in an intensive care unit at the University Hospital of the National University of Colombia.

Given this scenario, the former official’s defense submitted a formal request to the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec), in which he asked to consider his delicate medical condition and his age, 76 years, when evaluating the conditions of his confinement. In the document, known by the W Radiothe lawyers invoked the reinforced protection of fundamental rights such as life, human dignity, personal integrity and health.

In addition to the neurological history, the defense pointed out that Bonilla was diagnosed with several chronic pathologies, including chronic kidney disease, dyslipidemia, prostatic hyperplasia and gastroesophageal reflux, conditions that require constant monitoring and specialized medical care.

Despite the arguments presented, Inpec determined that the former minister will continue to be deprived of liberty in the CESPO, while the judicial process that allegedly links him to the corruption network of the UNGRD progresses. The authorities, for their part, indicated that their health status and necessary medical care will be monitored in accordance with established protocols.
