The capture of former deputy mayor Jhon Jarly in Spain reactivated a case that, despite its seriousness, had tiptoed between the files of the Military and Police Criminal Justice.

The former uniformed man, convicted in Colombia for several crimes related to corruption and computer manipulation, now faces an extradition process requested through Interpol Red Notice so that he responds to the national authorities.

According to the official statement, the Investigation Group for Military and Police Criminal Justice coordinated with Interpol Colombia the publication of the red alert that will allow progress in the procedures for his return to the country.

The former deputy mayor, who served as treasurer of the Cundinamarca Police Department, was found guilty of embezzlement by appropriation, abusive access to computer systems, malfeasance by omission and computer damage.

The investigation established that Jhon would have diverted around $850 million while he performed internal administrative functions at the institution.

The capture in Spain occurred due to a case of document falsification, but upon reviewing the antecedents, the sentence imposed in Colombia on July 1, 2025 emerged: 140 months in prison, a fine equivalent to 855 minimum wages and inability to hold public office during the same period.

In the midst of media attention for this case, another investigation was also revealed involving an active deputy mayor in Ibagué, accused of sexual harassment against a police assistant.
