At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, the Superior Court of Manizales sentenced, in the second instance, the former councilor of the Caldense capital, José Fernando Mancera Tabares, to 6 years in prison, for his responsibility in the crime of aggravated domestic violence.

This decision was made after accepting the appeal presented to a first instance ruling on February 6, which had sentenced Mancera Tabares for the crime of personal injury, to a sentence of 32 months in prison.

The events that motivated the decision occurred on June 11, 2020, in the Palermo neighborhood of Manizales, where Mancera Tabares arrived in a vehicle, and physically and psychologically abused his former romantic partner, and also threatened to make an attempt on her life. Due to the blows she received, the woman was taken to a care center.

Mancera Tabares lived with her ex-partner from 2011 to 2019, but constantly insisted that they return.

The Prosecutor’s Office charged him, in 2020, with the crime of domestic violence, ensuring that he exercised acts of domination, power and subjugation against the victim, as he constantly stalked her, persecuted and threatened her. He also intimidated her with text and voice messages, which were presented as evidence during the trial.

Mancera Tabares was captured by servants of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI), at the exit of the Manizales Palace of Justice, on November 18, to serve his sentence in a prison.
