On the night of last Friday, January 30, it became chaotic for travelers traveling through the strategic corridor that connects the departments of Tolima and Cundinamarca.
A large fire consumed much of the infrastructure of the Bicentenario toll, located in the sector that connects the municipalities of Honda and Guaduas.
The emergency, which was reported after 8:00 pm, forced the authorities to decree the total closure of the road, leaving hundreds of drivers trapped while the flames devoured the collection booths.
According to the first versions provided by relief agencies and compiled by local media, the incident would have had an accidental origin.

César Santana, commander of the Honda Volunteer Firefighters, pointed out that a technical failure, presumably a short circuit, in a private vehicle that was in the payment lanes, was the trigger.
The fire did not take long to jump from the car to the infrastructure of the toll, whose base and roof were involved in an intense flame that reached several meters high, as could be seen in videos broadcast by witnesses on social networks.
Despite the magnitude of the event, the preliminary reports from the Cundinamarca Departmental Fire Department Delegation bring some peace of mind in terms of human lives: no injuries or fatalities were recorded. However, damage to the infrastructure is considered irreparable in several parts of the station.
Currently, the National Police and road concession personnel are evaluating the risks to try to enable passage to a single lane, while recommending transporters and individuals look for alternative routes to avoid traffic jams in this nerve center of the country.
