The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, did not hold anything back when referring to the opening of a formal investigation against President Gustavo Petro for the controversial “platimazo” which took place on June 21 in La Alpujarra.
The investigation into Petro was ordered by the Impeachment Commission of the House of Representatives after the complaint of Councilman Alejandro De Bedout.
«President Petro, the one who gives him a platform, the one who gives him a microphone and practically endorses these threats. “We are in the hands of people who are allied with criminal structures.”indicated the local leader.
Gutiérrez recalled that many of the ringleaders who participated in the event were requested for extradition when they were captured during his previous administration.
“Many of those people who were on the stand a few years ago, when they were captured by us in the previous administration, were requested for extradition”he pointed out.

The mayor revealed that he has already sent detailed information to the United States government about what happened.
The investigation into Petro arises after the national president invited convicted leaders of criminal structures such as the Oficina de Envigado and La Terraza to the event «Urban Peace.
They were all held in the Itagüí prison, but their temporary release was ordered to participate in the official event.

The Commission of Investigation and Accusation ordered the collection of evidence “relevant, conducive, useful and necessary” to verify the facts.
Inpec was instructed to send copies of the resolutions that authorized the transfers, the Ministry of Justice to inform if it was aware of the decisions, and the Presidency to certify if orders were issued from its offices.
Councilor De Bedout, who filed the complaint, assured that “Petro faces a real, open process with evidentiary momentum that has him on the ropes today.” He added that they seek to establish whether public resources, illegal structures and acts of political proselytism disguised as peace politics were used in the event.
In addition, the Commission certified copies to the Supreme Court of Justice to investigate Senator Isabel Zuleta, who had irregularly requested the departure of nine historical leaders of La Terraza and La Oficina, as aliases ‘Tom’, ‘Vallejo’ or ‘El Grande’.
Federico Gutiérrez was emphatic at the time when he questioned the presidential decision: “They took out the worst criminals, those who caused homicides in the city, those who extort people, those who murder, those who do so much damage, and they stopped them on a platform.”
The local leader concluded with a call for justice: «I hope that this does not remain unpunished. All responsibilities have to be determined. The case continues to generate outrage in Medellín and in the political country.
