The strong storm that hits Medellín and the Aburrá Valley this Wednesday, January 28, has begun to leave material damage. The incident occurred on the Transversal Superior, right in front of the RR Autos dealership, where a gigantic tree fell due to the force of the winds and the intensity of the rains.
The tree fell heavily on a van that was traveling through the sector, which, fortunately, was empty at that time, avoiding what could have been a tragedy with fatalities.
The emergency did not end there, since the fall of the tree took down a power pole with it, which caused an immediate blackout of electricity in a large part of this exclusive sector of El Poblado.

The risk management authorities reported that, due to the magnitude of the impact and the high-tension cables spread over the asphalt, there is no vehicular passage in both directions. This situation has generated a collapse on the road, forcing drivers to look for alternative routes such as the Transversal Inferior or Avenida El Poblado.

Around 3:40 pm, SIATA reported that moderate to high intensity rains persist over eastern Medellín and Envigado.
The storm is expected to continue for at least half an hour, making debris removal difficult. For the moment, EPM indicated that: “An unforeseen event occurred that affected the energy service, after the fall of a large tree, in the sectors: Altos Del Poblado, Las Lomas, Las Palmas, Los Balsos and Los Naranjos, in commune 14 of the district of Medellín. Our technical team is working to restore the supply in the shortest time possible.”
The Ministry of Mobility made an urgent call to avoid traffic on the Superior Transversal while the cleaning work is carried out.
