A new terrorist attack once again hit the Pan-American highway, one of the most strategic highways in the country that connects the south of Cauca with Nariño. The incident, attributed to the Carlos Patiño front of the FARC dissidents, left one person dead, two more injured and several cargo vehicles affected.

The attack occurred this Wednesday, November 26, in the El Estrecho district, municipality of Patía, where a high-powered explosive device was installed on the edge of the road.

Authorities confirmed that the detonation occurred shortly before noon and forced the total closure of the corridor. Relief agencies arrived at the point and warned that, fortunately, there were no homes in the exact area; Otherwise, the consequences would have been devastating.

The Secretary of the Government of Patía, Óscar Piamba, indicated that more possible injuries and additional damage are being verified in the area, while specialized units inspect if there is the presence of other devices.

The attack adds to a pattern of violence that has transporters and travelers in the south of the country in check. In the last week, three thefts from drivers were recorded in Cauca, 10 vandalized vehicles in Nariño and now this new explosive activation in El Patía. Transport unions warned that the situation is unsustainable and that the highway has become a corridor without state control.
