An escape attempt recorded this Thursday, December 11 at the El Buen Pastor prison in Bogotá generated moments of tension between the inmate population and INPEC staff.

A woman deprived of liberty tried to escape by taking advantage of a fight in patio 6, one of the pavilions that has been repeatedly reported for hygiene problems and poor feeding conditions.

According to the balance provided by the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute, the Custody Corps applied the security protocols and acted immediately.

To control the situation, it was necessary to use tear gas while the guard intervened in the roof area, where the inmate was trying to climb towards one of the external facades.

The woman was recaptured in a few minutes and a general count was subsequently carried out, which confirmed the presence of 2,795 inmates. During the operation, an INPEC official was reportedly injured.

After the incident, the Institute inspected patio 6 and announced the opening of the corresponding disciplinary procedures.

The INPEC assured that “the operation of the prison remains normal” and highlighted that the timely intervention prevented the escape from progressing and further damage to the El Buen Pastor prison in Bogotá.
