In Medellín, a quick action by the GAULA of the National Police allowed the release of a man who was being held against his will in commune 7, Robledo, after being the victim of an extortion attempt. The operation ended with the capture of four adults and the arrest of a minor, alleged members of the ‘Robledo’ Organized Criminal Group.
According to preliminary investigations, the victim owed 700 thousand pesos to a criminal group, which led the captors to demand additional money from his family, who deposited 800 thousand pesos. A friend of the affected man alerted the authorities about the situation, which allowed them to activate an anti-kidnapping plan in the Villas de Santa Fe neighborhood.
As they approached the house where the victim was being held, the uniformed officers heard cries for help coming from inside. The GAULA intervention was carried out in a controlled and rapid manner, managing to rescue the citizen without serious physical damage.

During the operation, the Police seized four cell phones, a horsefly and a tonfa-type stick, elements that the alleged criminals used to intimidate and control the victim. These objects were incorporated as evidence by the Attorney General’s Office.
Those captured must answer to justice for the crimes of extortion and kidnapping. The minor was left in the custody of the competent authorities. Investigations continue to identify other possible parties involved in the criminal organization.
General William Castaño, commander of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Police, highlighted that the operation shows the importance of early warning in the community and coordination between citizens and authorities to prevent kidnapping situations from escalating and ending in tragedies.
