In a simultaneous and coordinated action, alleged members of the ELN launched an offensive using unmanned aircraft loaded with explosives and grenades against the San Jorge Military Canton, in Saravena, and the military base in the municipality of Fortul on the morning of this Thursday, February 12.

This new method of attack has put the authorities on high alert, who are trying to neutralize the aerial threat in an area historically hit by the conflict.

During the criminal attack, it was confirmed that a captain of the Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC) was injured by the impact of shrapnel from a grenade launched from one of the drones.

The officer received immediate medical attention from military health, while the rest of the uniformed personnel received the peremptory order to seek refuge in the face of continued hostile overflights.

The National Army described this event as a clear violation of human rights and an attempt to destabilize security in the municipalities of Tame, Saravena and Fortul, where the guerrilla presence is persistent.

Given the seriousness of the events, the central command ordered the immediate deployment of support troops and the activation of intelligence and air mobility capabilities to locate the point of origin of the devices.

Until now, military operations continue to be carried out to safeguard the troops and the civilian population that was caught in the crossfire.
