The ELN declared an armed strike at noon this Friday, December 12, which will begin next December 14 to 17.

In a statement released through its channels, the armed group assured that during this period it will carry out offensive operations in several regions of the country and asked the population to avoid any type of land or river movement.

Although they stated that they do not target citizens, they insisted that civilians should stay away from the Public Force to prevent incidents during the armed strike.

According to the guerrilla structure, this action would be a form of protest against what they described as “threats of foreign intervention” in South America. In the document, they mention alleged United States military maneuvers in the Caribbean that, according to them, would be part of a geopolitical pressure plan. They also accused sectors of the Colombian Government of “give in to external interests.”

The announcement includes specific warnings: they ask Colombians to refrain from traveling through national corridors or navigable rivers from 6:00 am on December 14 until the same time on the 17th.

They assure that their members will abide by humanitarian guidelines and that they will not attack civilian objects, although they reiterated that they will respond against “saboteurs” or military units that they consider a threat.

Authorities consulted indicated that, for now, there is no confirmation of anomalous movements in the areas historically affected by this guerrilla. However, analysts warn that the announcement could generate mobility restrictions in departments such as Arauca, Norte de Santander, Chocó and Cauca, where the presence of the ELN remains significant.
